Scott Hauser
Scott Hauser’s love for birds started early, as a young birdwatcher in Wisconsin. While he earned his B.S. in Wildlife Management from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1994, he quickly realized his passion wasn't in managing game resources; it was in non-consumptive bird conservation.
This led him to fascinating field work—from breeding bird surveys in the Smoky Mountains to ecological monitoring in Colorado. The years spent in the field taught him he didn't want a bureaucratic career; he wanted adventure and direct connection to the wild. That journey brought him to Alaska, and he fell in love with both the state and his future wife.
After earning a Master of Arts in Teaching (Science Emphasis) from Lewis and Clark College, he settled in Anchorage. It was exploring the Alaskan wilderness, especially the Arctic, that sealed the deal. Combining his deep birdwatching knowledge with extensive backcountry skills, he joined Wilderness Birding Adventures (WBA). For over 20 years, he’s had the immense privilege of guiding expeditions, exploring and sharing the incredible avian diversity in every corner of this state. This on-the-ground, two-decade perspective gives him a unique understanding of the habitats and conservation needs of Alaska's birds – a passion he shares with his family, including his children Quetzal and Trogon, who are named after beautiful birds. (Scott terms off the Alaska Board in Spring 2031.)
