Angela Matz

Angela Matz was born in Colorado and developed a deep connection to nature as a young adult in the Pacific Northwest and Maine. She arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska on a cold, ice-foggy night 27 years ago to serve as an environmental toxicologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Her career as a toxicologist and oil spill response coordinator took her throughout Alaska to address pollution impacts on wildlife and their habitats, and to train others to do the same.  Winter nights, mushing, skiing, berry picking, and canoe trips are a few of her favorite things.  Dr. Matz received her Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Maine, an M.S. in Environmental Toxicology from Western Washington University, and a B.S. in Biology from Santa Clara University. She and her husband Dave reside in Two Rivers. (Angela terms off the Alaska Board in Spring 2031.)
