Southeast Alaska Birding Trail Hollis

Maybeso Creek Delta

A great spot to bird on eastern Prince of Wales Island near Hollis.

Set near the Hollis town center, Maybeso Creek Delta yields Bald Eagles, Commons Ravens, and Canada Goose to Red-throated Loon, Western Sandpiper, and Rufous Hummingbird. The creek itself courses through central Prince of Wales Island and flows eastward toward Hollis Anchorage.

From the dirt pullout, there are trails going straight to the creek where the estuary begins. But be aware of tides (go at low tide) and be bear-aware during salmon season. The creek itself is safe to cross if you have the right footwear—i.e., high rubber boots.
