The Long Island Causeway is a series of roads and bridges that span the tidal waters water between the main island and Long Island and accesses deeper waters for marine access. This is a popular picnic spot during low tide.

The road is a good spot to walk to look for birds using the adjacent tidelands, mud flats, and saltwater, and is particularly good for birding during the winter with greater concentrated use and more species observed than during the summer. A wide variety of waterfowl, seabirds, and shorebirds are observed at this location with over 120 species documented.

Directions:

From Hoonah take the Garteeni Highway/Airport Road 3.4 miles past the airport to where the road transitions to Kennel Creek Road. Turn Right at the junction with Whitestone Harbor Road to stay on Kennel Creek Forest Service Road 8502/8508 and drive 2.6 miles to Forest Road 8570. Turn right on Forest Road 8570 and drive approximately 1 mile to the causeway heading to Long Island. Roadside parking is available.
