Bear Paw Lake is a U.S. Forest Service-maintained recreation site with a short trail, picnic tables, and a fire ring. Bear Paw Lake Trail is a 0.3-mile Forest Service-maintained trail located approximately 25 miles from Hoonah along Forest Road 8508. The outlet creek is crossed by a trail bridge, which provides an opportunity to observe fish and waterbirds.

At the lake, you will find one picnic table, a fire ring, and opportunities for fishing and nature viewing. Along the lake shore, beavers have built a lodge, and they can often be seen in the lake. Trumpeter Swans and other migrants frequent the pond in the fall. A Forest Service public-use cabin, the Kennel Creek Cabin, is located near this area and available for nightly rental.

Directions:

From Hoonah take the Garteeni Highway/Airport Road 3.4 miles past the airport to where the road transitions to Kennel Creek Road. Turn right at the junction with Whitestone Harbor Road to stay on Kennel Creek Forest Service Road 8502/8508 and drive 20.5 miles to Bear Paw Lake.
