Mountain Point
Mountain Point is located approximately 3 miles south of Saxman on the South Tongass Highway. There is a rock breakwater at this location that is a good spot for birdwatching year-round with large flocks of migrants passing, particularly during the spring migration.
Over 150 bird species have been observed at this site including Marbled Murrelet, Harlequin Duck, Surf Scoter, Barrow’s Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Common Murre, Pelagic and Double-crested Cormorant, Pacific Loon, and many other species including passerines in the surrounding forest vegetation.
