Pat’s Lake is a popular fishing spot that is a freshwater lake with adjacent wetland habitats surrounded by temperate rainforest. Aquatic vegetation in the lake provides good habitat for a diversity of bird species.

Likely observations include a diversity of waterfowl like Trumpeter Swan, Ring-necked Duck, Mallard, Canada Goose, Barrow’s Goldeneye, and several other species. Other birds include Bald Eagle, American Dipper, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Golden and Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and Varied Thrush.

Directions:

From Wrangell, drive approximately 10 miles south on the Zimovia Highway to Pat Creek Road. Turn left (east) and drive to the parking area near the lake (approximately 0.4 miles).

Trail Information:

On Pat Creek Road before reaching the lake, there is a small pullout on the south side of the road where a trail leads from the road to the outlet of Pats Lake.
