Dear Friends of Audubon Alaska,
Unprecedented storms have struck Western Alaska, impacting nearly 50 coastal communities. The storms brought extreme winds and record flooding, which caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. This damage occurred just as winter is settling in these remote Alaska communities, making relief and recovery particularly challenging. Western Alaska hosts an exceptional abundance and diversity of breeding and migrating birds. For decades, Audubon Alaska has collaborated with local communities to support the conservation of these places that both birds and people need.
In response, the Alaska Community Foundation has partnered with local organizations and regional leaders to establish a relief fund. This fund provides critical support for immediate recovery efforts and long-term resilience, including disaster preparedness initiatives. According to the Foundation, all distribution decisions will be guided by local advisors to ensure that aid reaches communities based on their identified needs.
Please consider supporting the people and communities of Western Alaska during this challenging time. All donations to the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund, small and large, are helpful. Thank you.
With gratitude,
Audubon Alaska
