Located on the grassy lawn behind the Petersburg ferry terminal is an area locally known as Wharf Park. The wharf is a portion of the old ferry terminal dock and extends approximately 100’ into the Narrows and provides views of Wrangell Narrows. Great Blue Herons often roost at this location. The railings of the ferry terminal are used for roosting by hundreds of Black Turnstones with occasional Surfbirds or a Ruddy Turnstone (casual). Unusual species here have included Red-breasted Sapsucker, Hooded Merganser (rare), and Canvasback (casual). Out further in the Narrows can be seen Common and Pacific Loon, Pigeon Guillemot, Long-tailed Duck (up to thousands in the winter), and scoters.

Located less than a mile from downtown Petersburg on S. Nordic Drive at the Ferry Terminal is a grassy area and pier known as Wharf Park. Park on the south end of the ferry terminal parking lot.
