Southeast Alaska Birding Trail Juneau

Twin Lakes

Watch for marsh birds such as Great Blue Heron, Tree Swallow, and Red-winged Blackbird.

Twin Lakes is a city park managed by the City of Juneau. The park has picnic tables, a restroom, drinking fountains, a rental picnic shelter, a fishing pier and a large grassy field adjacent to Twin Lakes. Birding here is best during the fall, winter and spring as the lakes attract both migrating and wintering waterfowl. Common observations include: Mallard, Ring-necked Duck, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Common and Hooded Merganser. More rare ducks such as Redhead and Canvasback may show up here. American Dippers can be seen in the small stream flowing into the lakes. From Twin Lakes, birders can walk north to the marshes near the Pioneer Home. Here marsh birds such as Great Blue Heron, Tree Swallow, and Red-winged Blackbird reside.
