Sweetwater Lake

There is a canoe/kayak route that paddlers can take to get from Sweetwater Lake back to Coffman Cove.

Sweetwater Lake is large lake located about 10 miles from Coffman Cove. There is a canoe/kayak route that paddlers can take to get from Sweetwater Lake back to Coffman Cove and the Forest Service maintains a public use cabin on the edge of the lake surrounded by old-growth spruce, hemlock, and cedar forest. The cabin is available for use by reservation. Migratory waterfowl use the lake during the fall. The lake is a good fishing spot for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, dolly varden as well as coho, sockeye, and pink salmon. Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, marten, mink, otter, and beaver are common. Seals are also often seen in lake. The Forest Service cabin sleeps up to 6 and has a wood stove, outhouse, and rowboat. Rental companies can be contacted to arrange delivery of boats and gear upon request.

Directions:

To access the site, drive 10 road miles from Coffman Cove via Coffman Cove Road/Forest Road 3030. From the access point for the cabin, there is a 200-foot hike and ½-mile boat ride to cabin.
