The road bridge crossing Spasski Creek is a good location to pull over and look for birds. Belted Kingfisher and Great-blue Heron are commonly observed fishing in the creek at this site. Outhouses are located nearby, at the Suntaheen Fishpass Interpretive Trail just a bit further up the road after Spasski Creek Bridge. Be sure to follow rules for being safe in bear country while exploring this area, particularly when salmon are in the creek.

Directions:

From Hoonah, take the Garteeni Highway/Airport Road 3.4 miles past the airport to where the road transitions to Kennel Creek Road 8502/8508. Turn left at the junction with Whitestone Harbor Road (Forest Service Road 8530) at mile 2.1 and drive approximately 11 miles to the road bridge crossing Spasski Creek and park alongside the road near this bridge. To reach the Suntaheen Int. Trailhead, continue on the road a short distance to the road junction, turn left, and then park at the trailhead just past the creek crossing on the right side of the road.
