Portage Cove State Recreation Site
Portage Cove State Recreation Site is located on Beach Road just over a mile from downtown Haines. The site offers opportunities for birding in the adjacent Chilkoot Inlet. There is a short trail from the parking area through the park to the coast. Watch out for Belted Kingfisher, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Orange-crowned Warbler, Hermit Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Fox Sparrow, and Song Sparrow.
