Gustavus is a small community of 450 people that is the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The community has accommodations for visitors including lodging and dining and numerous tour and guide business to help visitors explore the Glacier Bay area. The Salmon River runs through town and is a good spot for birding and wildlife watching in Gustavus.

Fly to Gustavus Alaska airport and drive main road to town or travel to Gustavus on the Alaska Marine Highway (ferry).
