Dewey Hillside Trails
The Dewey Hillside Trails are a network of trails on the mountainside on the east side of Skagway. The trailhead can easily be accessed on foot from downtown. Some trails are moderately strenuous in places. The trails pass through a variety of habitats including a spruce, lodgepole pine, and hemlock forest, along several lakes, and alpine habitat at higher elevations.
According to eBird, approximately 90 species have been observed at this site including a variety of woodpeckers, chickadees, Northern Goshawk, loons, and Rock and Willow ptarmigan in the higher elevation alpine areas.
Directions:
To reach the Dewey Hillside Trails, go to Pullen Pond, located near the intersection of Second Avenue and Spring Street where the railroad tracks cross the road. Cross the street near the railroad tracks and follow the creek upstream behind the rail fence. The trailhead is about 500 feet away. Look for the signs and use caution crossing the railroad tracks. There is limited parking at Pullen Pond, so accessing the trail on foot from town is a good option.
