Start at the Glacier Bay National Park Visitor Center to hear more about Glacier Bay, learn how best to access and explore this area, and pick up a Glacier Bay National Park birding checklist. There are several interpretative services offered including a guided hike on the Forest Loop Trail which goes through the forest around the visitor center and circles back near the beach allowing for views of both forest bird species as well as birds using the marine environment.

In the forest, a wide variety of passerines can be found during the summer including Dark-eyed Junco, Orange-crowned Warbler, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Three-toed Woodpecker, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Hermit Thrush, Winter Wren, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Sooty Grouse.

Directions:

To reach the Glacier Bay Visitor Center from downtown Gustavus, head west on Gustavus Road toward Shooting Star Road (0.7 miles). Turn right onto Mountain View Road and drive 2.8 miles to Park Road. Drive 4.4 miles and follow the signs to the Glacier Bay Visitor Center. The trailhead for the Forest Loop Trail is located near the visitor center.
