False Bay is located about 25 miles from Hoonah and is accessed by Forest Service Road 8530. The area is adjacent to old growth forest that provides habitat for a nesting pair of goshawks. There are two picnic tables and a fire ring near the beach, but an outhouse is not available at this location. This is a good spot to scope for seabirds, waterbirds, and waterfowl. Passerines including Varied Thrush are in abundance in the adjacent old-growth forest.

Directions:

From Hoonah take the Garteeni Highway/Airport Road 3.4 miles past the airport to where the road transitions to Kennel Creek Road 8502/8508. Turn left at the junction with Whitestone Harbor Road (Forest Service Road 8530) at mile 2.1 and drive 23 miles to False Bay. There is a roadside pull-off on the south end of False Bay.
