Crescent Beach
The south end of Mitkof Island from South Blind Slough to Blaquiere Point is managed by the State of Alaska and Crescent Beach is included in that area. A short spur off of the Mitkof Highway leads to a parking spot adjacent to Crescent Beach, a tidally influenced area adjacent to Summer Straight and near the rich waters of the Stikine River Delta. This is one of several roadside locations along the south end of Mitkof Island where the waters of Sumner Strait can be glassed for species that inhabit this area.
Notable species include Red-breasted Merganser (especially in the spring), Horned Grebe (migrant), Western Grebes (migrant), and fall migrants include Black-legged Kittiwakes, the California Gull (rare), and Parasitic Jaeger (rare).
