About a one-hour drive south of Wrangell on the Nemo Loop Road is the trailhead for Thoms Lake. A 1.4-mile long boardwalk and gravel trail will lead you to Thoms Lake. On the other side of the lake, there is a State of Alaska cabin managed by a local sporting group that is available for public use. It is first-come, first-served, and accessible by boat or floatplane only.

The trailhead and trail start on National Forest land but transition to land managed by the state of Alaska near the lake. The lake is a good spot for waterfowl and water birds including Common Loon, Common Merganser, Mallard, and other species including grebes and passerines in the surrounding upland habitats.

Directions:

Located 22 miles south of town off of the Nemo Loop (FS 6267), a 1.2-mile boardwalk trail provides access to this lake.
