In the Railroad/Fish Train Trail area, look for birds in flight in the open areas, including alder flycatchers and warblers such as the Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) and Orange-crowned Warbler. In addition, look for species such as White-winged Crossbill and Pine Grosbeak in wooded zones with conifer trees. At the airport end of the trail, you can see and hear a variety of different birds, especially in the spring with shorebirds and waterfowl coming through and stopping in the big open field area before you get to the trail.

Directions:

The Fish Train Trail has two access points. One, access to the trail from town is close and easy; park at the Forest Service Ranger District office, and walk 0.1 miles on Forest Highway 10. The trailhead and interpretive signs are on the right side of the road near the public safety building. Two, for access near the airport, drive 3 miles on Airport Road and turn left onto a gravel road directly across from Situk Landing Road. Drive 0.4 miles straight to the end of the road where a trailhead with a sign is located. This wide gravel trail is suitable for either walking or biking and is 2.5 miles in length in each direction.
