About Us

David Secord

Descended from Alaskans and Canadians and born in Seattle, Dave Secord was trained as a rocky intertidal marine invertebrate ecologist, but he has branched out considerably. He holds degrees from Pomona College and the University of Washington, where he was a professor and founded or directed several interdisciplinary environment-related programs. After serving as Alaska/BC Program Officer for the Wilburforce Foundation, and VP Strategic Grantmaking at MakeWay (formerly Tides Canada) Foundation, he began independently consulting. He develops, evaluates, and implements strategies for private foundations, funder affinity groups, environmental and Indigenous people’s organizations, and universities. He serves on several nonprofit boards. He and his spouse Amy are dual citizens of the US and Canada and they live, with their dog Coconut, on Salt Spring Island, BC. They love travel, nature, history, and theatre. (Dave terms of the Alaska Board in Fall 2024.)
