Hungry Point - Nordic Drive
Hungry Point is located at the junction of Fredrick Sound and Wrangell Narrows. Strong tidal exchanges at this site create an exchange of rich waters attracting a variety of waterfowl and seabirds including: Bonaparte’s Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull, Mew Gull, three scoter species, Harlequin Duck, Pigeon Guillemot, and Black Turnstones, among many other bird species. The highest numbers of birds are usually seen on an outgoing tide as the outflowing water from the Narrows especially provides an abundance of food.
Directions:
Hungry Point is located at the north end of Mitkof Island adjacent to Nordic Drive. The point is an easy ¾ mile walk from downtown (one-way) or drive to a small diagonal parking area that is located on North Nordic Drive about an 1/8 mile south of the point. Avoid blocking access to homes and private drives that are adjacent to the parking area.
