This birding site is along the Klondike Highway from the town of Skagway to the border with Canada, about 15 miles. The highway crosses a variety of habitat types as it ascends to the mountain pass and provides great views of the Skagway River, and Denver and Laughton valleys. This is a paved highway with numerous pull-outs with overlooks and interpretive signs.

In the spring, summer, and fall look for: Golden-crowned Sparrow, Snow Bunting, Common Raven, and warblers. In the winter: Common Raven, Black-billed Magpie, and Common Redpoll.

Directions:

From Skagway, take State Street away from the waterfront. State Street will turn into Klondike Highway. Drive Klondike Highway up to the mountain pass at the Canadian border. Note: If you go past the USA Border Station, you should have your passport when you return.
