The International Falls Trail provides access for birding in the alpine ecosystem. This trail follows a creek with many waterfalls that starts in Canada and passes into the USA as you ascend the falls. It is accessed by an unofficial trail that begins at a parking area in Canada near the international border. The trail starts with a very strenuous steep downhill scramble and creek crossing, or a longer but less-steep traverse is possible to the right. The rest of the trail is relatively easy but steep, watch your footing. There are no services or cell phone reception in this area.

During the spring, summer, and fall you may encounter Snow Bunting, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Common Raven, and Rock Ptarmigan. During the winter: Common Raven and ptarmigan in winter plumage may be observed.

Directions:

From Skagway drive about 15 miles on the Klondike Highway to the mountain pass. Just beyond the border with Canada, turn left into a large gravel parking area. Note: This trailhead is located on the Canadian side of the border, be sure to bring your passport with you to return through the USA Border Station.
