Wharf Park is located on the grassy lawn behind the Petersburg ferry terminal and is a portion of the old ferry terminal dock that extends approximately 100 feet into the Wrangell Narrows. Great Blue Heron often roost at this location. The railings of the ferry terminal are used for roosting by hundreds of Black Turnstone with occasional Surfbird or casual Ruddy Turnstone.
Unusual species here have included Red-breasted Sapsucker, Hooded Merganser (rare), and Canvasback (casual). Out further in the Narrows look for Common and Pacific Loon, Pigeon Guillemot, Long-tailed Duck (up to thousands in the winter), and scoters.
Directions:
Located less than a mile from downtown Petersburg on South Nordic Drive at the Ferry Terminal is a grassy area and pier known as Wharf Park. Park on the south end of the ferry terminal parking lot.
