The Biden Administration released a Presidential Memorandum today that directs executive departments and federal agencies to prepare detailed plans of action to implement the Consultation and Coordination With Tribal Governments Executive Order from November, 2000. In reponse, Audubon Alaska has issued this statement.
We are excited to see the Biden Administration take these actions to highlight the need for "regular, meaningful, and robust consultation" with Tribal governments as a step toward honoring Tribal sovereignty and self-governance. The original stewards of our lands and waters should not be ignored in the name of fast-tracking federal decisions in places like the Arctic Refuge, Bristol Bay, and the Tongass National Forest.
