SEACC has invited Audubon Alaska and partners including Native Movement, Women's Earth and Climate Action Network, Environment America, and more to a virtual Rally for the Tongass to encourage Southeast Alaskans and Americans nationwide to speak out in favor of reinstating essential protections on the Tongass National Forest.
Scheduled events include addresses from Indigenous leaders, previews of films made by Southeast Alaskans with a focus on the Tongass, a performance by Portugal. The Man, and much more.
The pre-recorded virtual rally celebrates the support generated by people across Alaska and the nation during the 60-day public process that opened on November 23rd to encourage comments about restoring Roadless Rule protections for the Tongass.
We have until January 24, 2022 to share our stories and opinions with the Forest Service in order to secure the ecological, cultural and economic vibrancy of the Tongass as over 9 million acres are currently threatened to be industrially logged.
Rally for the Tongass will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, from 4 to 5 p.m. AKST, 8 to 9p.m. EST via Facebook Live and Zoom.
